    Hi,

It’s my new years resolution to go on some workshops – so I’m just having a google and came across your site.

I’ve just seen all your lovely printing and was wondering – have you any idea if you can print onto fabric using an adana?

    Thanks Sarah

      Hi Sarah,
You can indeed print onto fabric using an Adana. Sounds like fun!

Line up your piece of fabric to correspond with the chase / design (for example if you were printing a tshirt you’d position the front in the printing area but you’d have to be sure to put some plastic and card inside it as the ink may run through). It’s also a good idea to temporarily fix your fabric to the press, so that it doesn’t get caught in the rollers once you’ve printed. What size press do you have?

You can use oil or water based inks – water based is more commonly used for fabric as it does not need thinning down. You can always experiment on some scrap fabric first, to get the right consistency. Printing onto natural fabric is good.

Once your ink has dried, place some baking parchment on both sides of the printed fabric and iron on a hot setting. This should seal the ink. I hope this helps – I’m going to be printing some canvas bags fairly soon using lino.
Best thing is, is to just go for it – experiment with some different inks / fabrics and see what happens!

    Dear sir/Madam
I’m currently an art teacher in Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford Carmarthenshire and the Creative Studies Faculty wishes to hold a charity event. This event is based around Artworks created by persons who may or may not be connected or have previously been in contact with the school. Therefore, as someone we consider to be talented and very artistic we would appreciate your support in producing one of the cards that we could raffle at the event. The subject and media used is completely your choice, if interested email me your current address and I will post a cover letter and enclose the card for your convenience. We aim to sell each card and raise some money for a suitable charity.
We would like this to be completed by Friday February 20th so that we can organise the event effectively, if you could post back to the school address provided below I would very much appreciate this. The concept is exciting and I would like to take this opportunity to cordially invite you to this evening that we have arranged for March the 6th on the school premises. Hopefully, you will be able to attend and enjoy the evening which will involve wine, cheese and biscuits in appreciation of your efforts, also to enjoy the art work that’s been produced. Local media will be there to see the event and we are hoping to ensure some publicity for both Ysgol Dyffryn Aman and these artists who contribute. We are happy to promote future events in which you can promote/display your work.

      Hi Olwen,
Thanks for your email, sorry I’ve not been able to respond until now due to a very busy schedule. I hope you managed to find an artist to deliver a card design in time. Do let me know if anything else comes up, email sarie8(at)gmail.com. Best wishes, Sarah
